Phonetics is the study of the sounds of a language. These sounds are commonly known as phonemes. We all know that every language, including English, has four skills- Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. For reading and writing, we use letters and for listening and speaking we use sounds. Therefore, those who want to better their English Spoken as well as listening skills, they surely need to comprehend and learn phonetics.

Let's answer some questions:

As we all know there are twenty six letters in the English alphabet. We usually start learning English from the alphabet but unfortunately almost half of the 26 letters we utter are incorrect. We are often misunderstood while communicating with others because of not knowing the correct pronunciation of the English alphabet. It is very important to know the right pronunciation of 26 letters of the English alphabet for those who are taking preparation for IELTS exam. In Listening section of IELTS exam, one may find 2-4 questions related to letters which they can easily answer if they know the correct pronunciation of the letters.

আমরা সবাই জানি English Alphabet-এ ২৬ টি letters আছে যেগুলোর মধ্যে ১৩-১৫ টি letters সাধারণত আমাদের উচ্চারণে সমস্যা হয়। আজকের lesson-এ আমরা এই ১৫ টি problem letters সহ ২৬ টি letters এর সঠিক উচ্চারণ শিখবো। অর্থাৎ এই (Aa) letter টি “এ” হবে নাকি “এই” নাকি “আ”, এই (Oo) letter টি “ও” বলবো নাকি “ঔ” আজকে তা জেনে নিবো।

নিচে প্রত্যেকটি letter এর সঠিক উচ্চারণ দেয়া হলোঃ

Aa	এই	আমরা ভুল করে “এ” বলে থাকি কিন্তু এর সঠিক উচ্চারণ হবে “এই”। এছাড়া যখন কোন বাক্যে article হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয় তখন সাধারণত এর উচ্চারণ হয় ”আ”। যেমনঃ I have a(আ) white T-shirt.
Bb	বী	দুই ঠোট দিয়ে উচ্চারণ করুন
Cc	সী
Dd	ডী
Ee	ঈ
Ff	এফ	নিচের ঠোঁট উপরের দাঁতের সাথে লাগিয়ে উচ্চারণ করুন
Gg	জী
Hh	এইচ্	ভুল করে আমরা ”এইস” বলি কিন্তু সঠিক উচ্চারণ হবে “এইচ্”। এছাড়া British English এ H কে কখনো কখনো ‘হেইচ্” উচ্চারণ করা হয়।
Ii	আই
Jj	জেই
Kk	খেই	উচ্চারণ কিছুটা “খ” এর মতো হবে।
Ll	এল
Mm	এম
Oo	ঔ	“ও” হবেনা। সঠিক উচ্চারণ হলো “ঔ”
Pp	ফী	দুই ঠোট দিয়ে উচ্চারণ করুন
Qq	খিউ	উচ্চারণ কিছুটা “খ” এর মতো হবে।
Rr	আ(র)	British English এ R এর শেষের “র” উচ্চারিত হয়না কিন্তু American English এ শেষের “র” উচ্চারিত হবে
